The Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has mentioned that sports, tourism, entertainment, arts and hospitality are sectors that can engage Lagos youths and keep them away from social vices.
The governor added that his administration would focus on these sectors as a single project to make youths in the state development-focused, as well as fulfill some of his campaign promises.
Ambode spoke on Saturday at the finals of the 2nd Lagos
International Badminton Classics, which was held at the Rowe Park, Yaba.
He said he was committed to developing grass roots sports, adding that sports in general would get adequate attention in the next four years of his administration.
In his words, he said, “What I promised in the course of the campaign was that we were going to take on sports in addition to tourism, entertainment and arts and hospitality. We would take them together and actually focus on them as one single project.
“As a matter of fact, we have decided to establish the Lagos State Sports Commission in line with the National Sports Commission. In essence, all sports associations would get necessary support that they need to thrive.
“One of the things I had promised Lagosians was that we would continue in the path of past administrations to take sports to the next level.”
