Steven E Iyere aka Slick Joe is blessed with a beautiful and well trained voice. A precocious child,
SlickJoe showed his love for music very early in his life at age 4 he was with the children choir, as early as primary school; he had started learning the rudiment of music.
By the time he was in Primary 5, Slick Joe could play the recorder excellently. His love for music propelled him to join his secondary school choir to satisfy his sounds desire. From there on he started learning to control his voice, perfecting his texture and range. He also picked up the clarinet and at this he became so good he was dubbed “Clarinet” now a versatile song writer with great sense of tonality.
Finding more outlets to express his musical talent, SlickJoe performed songs from his music icons, like Craig David, Usher, R-Kelly Boy2men, Michael Jackson and Brain McKnight thus he modelled and shaped his style after their works by injecting Nigeria local dialect and content. SlickJoe made up his mind to pursue music as a career from the time he performed live at the Youth Alive Programme at Canaan Land, Ota Ogun State , Nigeria.
A graduate of Psychology from Covenant University, Slick started recording songs and performing, while in the University Slick performed in all major gig on and off campus developing his stage craft, music is his passion and for this reason the studio became one of his house. He has worked with various producers likes Flytice, Del B, Nay Palm, Dr Frabz, Spellz, Puff tee, Trey pounds, Buster Keys, Magic Fingers, Don Adah, Makoyo to mention a few. Slick Joe, whose style has being compared by many to Usher, by many more to R Kelly and still by some to Craig David considers himself as a spontaneous and versatile R&B act. In his words: “Music is a part of me. Music is an avenue for me to express the various experiences that I have felt. The feelings could be love or heartbreak, joy or sorrow, loss or glory and of course fun!” His song writing ability is so developed that he has learnt to capture emotions perfectly with words.
